Hello,
As a new subscriber, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Mrs. Margaret Wise, a retired primary school teaching specialising in music, and am married to my husband of seventy years, Darrell. We live in the suburb of South Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

Darrell's great-grandfather Capt. William WOOD of the 15th Regiment of Foot migrated with his French wife and children to Tasmania (Van Diemen's Land) per the Mary Anne in 1829. William settled with his family at Snake Banks (now called Powranna) building his substantial home on the main highway 21 miles south of Launceston. There are descendants of William Wood living in England, Australia and New Zealand and possibly other places in the world. G.B. LANCASTER, the Victorian novelist who wrote the book, "Pageant", a story based on the exploits of the WOOD family in Tasmania, is also a direct descent and returned to live in Britain.

If anybody who has knowledge of the WOOD family of Tiverton is reads this message or knows of somebody who does, I would be very grateful if they would make contact with me.

Cheers,
Margie Wise,
Hobart, Tas.
