She would have been the schoolmistress at the National School in North
Huish. These National Schools were all over England in those times and in
the 1870s my grandparents attended the one in Colaton Raleigh. The Colaton
Raleigh school building is still there in that village and over the door is
a plaque giving the date it was erected. I do not think it is still used as
a school today and it may be used by the parishioners for other things.

From White's 1850 Directory the National School in North Huish was "erected
in 1846, in the Elizabethan style, at a cost of (GBP) 170". In 1850 John
PARKER was recorded in White's as being the schoolmaster.

I do know that the early Colaton Raleigh school registers are now in the
Devon RO and I would think they have most if not all of the Devon National
School registers. I was able to have photocopies of the relevant pages for
my own people who attended the Colaton Raleigh National School.
