Hi Rich,
Thank you for those, it does help a great deal. As you have more local
knowledge and resources than I, could you suggest in what way I can find out which
one of the Hugh's is my Hugh. I know he was the one who married Betty in
Hockworthy in 1795 which I'm assuming would make his birth circa 1770ish... but
there are two possibles in the right time frame 1) 1 Nov 1768 - Hugh son of
Hugh and Mary Talbot & 2) 31 Jan 1777 - Hugh of Ambrose and Anne Talbot.
Betty was widowed by the 1841 census so I can't do it by a later census age. I am
visiting the Exeter archives in the first week of June so I would be very
grateful for a few pointers as to where to try to pin him down.
Very grateful for any tips and hints, and for the information on baptisms
you have given me.
