Right--- ONLY the Y-DNA and mtDNA is used for genealogical DNA
testing--because they are the ONLY portions of DNA that can be correctly traced to a
specific parent. The rest of our DNA came from our parents also--but cannot be
traced reliably at this time to a specific parent. In that regard -- both Y and
mt DNA are sex-linked.

Mitochondrial DNAA similar situation exists for mitochondrial DNA, but in
this case it applies to females. Because
the fertilized egg contains only the mother's mitochondria [Link] and there
is no recombination in mitochondrial DNA,
RECOMBINATION in the X sex chromosome is why the mtdna is used. It is not
part of the X sex or the autosomal chromosome. Nelda
