To bring the list current on this thread--I'm pursuing the answers privately
but I'll report back to the list with what I learn if there is anything
productive to report.
The cost of the testing of the human genome has come down quite a bit to
$399 -- no longer over $1000. You do learn quite a bit about medical/disease
risks (no diagnoses or course) and that information can either be helpful or
frightening--depending upon how you look at it and also depending upon the
results. <g>
The one thing of a genealogical nature that you learn which isn't on a
standard mtDNA test is that you learn your entire ancestral origin and not just
what is indicated by mtDNA. Each of your 23 chromosomes is mapped out as to
ancestral background. Obviously it isn't real specific--but was sufficient to
tell me my ancestry is 100% European.
