Yes--absolutely. The new Relative Finder is proving to be invaluable given
the fact that the testing is quite different. What I love is that it opens
doors that standard Y-DNA and mtDNA testing don't tell us. It covers ALL
sides of our ancestry and uses all of it to find matches and today's events
PROVE to me that it WORKS. One side bonus for me is learning the mtDNA
haplogroup of my paternal grandmother (who died in 1942) that same mtDNA came
down through her mother and her mother's sister through to this cousin.
Amazing is the only word I can think of.
This new tool is what we've needed for genealogical purposes to better make
use of this whole genome testing.

Hi All,
23andme tests Y, mtdna, X and autosomals, according to some of the experts
over on genealogy-DNA list the mtdna is not as good as the test offered by
FTDNA as it is not as complete, the Y is not tested for STRs we use for
genealogy. They test the Y for STRs... this is used for deep ancestry/
population migration.. but they test the SNPs in your X and your autosomal
chromosomes... then as has been said they have a relative finder, which only uses
the snps of the Xs and autosomals to find your cousins. they compare
segments of the gene to other to see if your related.
I have six cousins I'm working on finding a paper trail for, My first find
was really pretty lucky we discovered we were cousins with a common
ancestor at 11 generations back ...Doggett 1573 in England.. WOW what a find!
LOL they only list him as a distant cousin...
Was it worth the money.. absolutely... for the genealogy help alone..
never mind the medical information... that was nice to know, but nothing to get
upset over, one of mine says I'm more supseptable to heart attacks, good
info to know.. I'll work more on dieting, but I'm not going to freak... LOL
I feel I would have gotten my moneys worth even at the old price of 399.00
(last year it was 999.00)
