Hi,
You cannot get your haplogroup from HVR1 because most mutations for
haplogroups come from the slow moving coding region.
What FTDNA and National Geographic do is run a SNP panel. SNP stands
for Single Nucleotide Polymorphism. They run a panel of 24. Of course,
if you go for the mtDNA full sequence then you get the whole shebang.
What 23andMe does is also a panel of SNPs although it is a larger one.
