Hello Cornelia,
Many thanks for the links to the Großsanktnikolaus (Sânnicolaul Mare)
website - I didn't realise that was the actual town that Bartok came from!
Both he and Kodaly are two of my favourite composers - together, they
collected wonderful Hungarian folk songs and I have several recordings of
their music, both classical and folk. When I get a few minutes, I'll look at
the sites more carefully.
Diana.

Hi,
I've stumbled upon this site (as it usually happens: while looking for
something else) and I thought some of you might want to see a few pictures
of Großsanktnikolaus (Sânnicolaul Mare). As you probably know, it is the
birth place of "Béla Bartók (1881-1945), the great Hungarian composer, (...)
one of the most significant musicians of the twentieth century." (
http://www.harvardsquarelibrary.org/unitarians/bartok.html )
On the right side, there is a picture of the home where he was born in
1881..
Later down, you can see a picture of his family gravesite (the monument made
by a stonemason in Szeged, Hungary) in the German cemetery of the town. The
author of the article, who describes here a trip made in 2006, says that
there are many valuable monuments in this cemetery and she continues: Maybe
one day they will be declared historical monuments, unless the oldest ones
will collaps by then.*

The next picture represents the Nako Castle, which accomodates a small Béla
Bartók museum.
* My comment: Everybody sees the problem of these cemeteries but nobody does
anything to stop it. Does the mind of a common citizen tick differently from
that of a politician? - I just ask myself.
Mike, you recently said something like I was using a poignant wording, so
let me answer that: Selling sense and reason is a poor job.
Cornelia
(still smiling)
