Jody --

What wonderful news about the AKdFF obtaining the later Mercydorf reocords.
Making the connection between the older and newer records are so important
because as most of us know, the names of our great grandparents are the key
to getting us back to the 1770's.

I know in my family the only one left remembered the wrong maiden name for
her mother. Without the Glogowatz records I never would have known and been
able to get back as far as I have.

I have a suggestion to make which I hope other DVHH listers would agree
with. Perhaps Jody could collect funds directly from the interested DVHH
listers and researchers and then transfer by check this amount to Dave
Dreyer in the name of the Donauschwaben Village Helping Hands Group so that
our support is shown as a Group. I understand that someone who is able to
make a sizeable donation might want to do it in their own name ... but many
of us may only be able to donate a smaller amount. Sometimes you think what
would $5 or $10 dollars (or more) do -- but every dollar counts (and adds up
quickly) when it comes to accessing these difficult-to-obtain records. If
they don't use this chance now, they may lose it altogether.

I would appreciate feedback from others on my idea -- and I will be donating
directly or through the DVHH group -- whichever happens.
I definitely want to support the continued research of our ancestors.

Take care. Susan

Now is the time for all Mercydorf and Banat Researchers to respond to a call
for assistance (or any other interested parties).

The AKdFF researchers in Germany have obtained copies of the Mercydorf KBs
(church records) covering the years 1832-1897 from the Romanian Archives;
and expect to publish the Mercydorf Familienbuch Vol I. 1735-1832/43 by
Edgar Aldag sometime in 2007. The cost of obtaining these records was 1500
Euro (over $2,000 at the current exchange rate). The AVBF
"Arbeitsgemeinschaft fuer Veroeffentlichung - Banater Familienbuecher"
(Joint venture to publish Banat Family Books) fronted the money to obtain
the Mercydorf church records.

I was asked by Richard Jäger, President of the AKdFF, to assist with the
fund raising to reimburse the AVBF. As the Mercydorf Coordinator, I am more
than happy to promote this campaign. It's not easy to obtain records from
Romania and it is costly. The village of Mercydorf was one of the first
Banat Villages and a first home for many Banaters upon their arrival to
Hungary.

I am appealing to all Mercydorf and Banat researchers (or anyone) to make a
donation of any amount that you are comfortable with. Please contact me (in
private if you prefer) and I will provide the details. I am hoping we North
Americans can raise a sizable sum as an act of good will towards our fellow
researchers in Germany, who are doing this for all of us.

Donations will be transmitted to Germany via a special account set up by
Dave Dreyer for transferring funds to the AVBF for their family books;
avoiding the hefty bank transfer fees. The request for donations is
strictly for ***recovering the cost of the church records*** this does not
accrue toward book orders.

For future reference: The publication costs of the Mercydorf Familienbuch
Vol I. 1735-1832/43 (which is now in manuscript form) will be covered by the
AKdFF and will be recovered when the books are sold (estimated purchase
price of $25-$30). I can hardly wait!

Thank you all, I appreciate any support in this matter.
