Way to go, Jody! That was a nice piece of research on your part!

Diane,

After checking several resources for the the spelling "Tschestereg" there was not much that came up, but cross referencing information I believe the village is Cestereg / Neuhatzfeld, in the Yugoslavia part of Banat region. The DVHH index had this village listed, but not the variant "Tschestereg" - so I added it to the index. Is this your Reiner family arriving March 23, 1907 via Ellis Island, from Eudrejnajo, b. Czostera?? (could be Cestereg and I am mis-reading it). They were going to Cinn, OH to join Peter KOPP. I have included Hans KOPP in this message, he may have information to share with you and he lives in Ohio. May be just a coincidence, but you never know.

Note: When checking at Ellis Island, the Hungarian variant was most likely used, pre WW1. Checking Csosztelek using Stephen Morse search engine, there are many record entries for this village (and only one Reiner).

Village name variants, books and other related information about this village:

German: Tschesterek, Hungary
German: Neuhatzfeld, Yugoslavia
Hungarian: Csösztelek, Hungary
Official: Cestereg, Yugoslavia
Other: Tschesterlek, Yugoslavia
Other: Tschestelek, Yugoslavia
Other: Tschestereg, Hungary

Csösztelek Torontal/Zsombolya. {Cheztreg, Csesztelek} Now: Cestereg, Serb.
RCath: CSANAD - 1958; GrCath: 20; GkOrth: 6; RefP: 6; Izr: NagyKikinda - 11
Resource: Genealogical Gazetteer of the Kingdom of Hungary by Jordan Auslander (I have this book)

Csõsztelek was in Torontál megye (county), 32 min. on the road from Nagybecskerek to Zsombolya.

Short History:
Cestereg is a village in Serbia. It is situated in the Zitiste municipality, Central Banat District, Vojvodina province. The village has a Serb ethnic majority and its population is 1,391 people (2002 census).

In the 19th century, the area of present-day village belonged to Josif Cekonic. The village was founded in 1828. Its first inhabitants were Hungarians, but since they left from the village, Cekonic settled Germans in 1829. In 1900, the population of the village was composed of 2,001 Germans, 673 Hungarians, and 64 Romanians. After World War II, as a consequence of the war events, German population fled from the village and was replaced with Serb settlers. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C4%8Cestereg

Hope all this helps you somewhat.
