Rose Mary,
Thanks so much for your suggestions. I have tried EllisIsland.org and found my grandfather I believe. He was listed as Mihaly (instead of Michael) Krebs. I do not have any birth records. I believe Michael was born July 8, 1885 according to his WWI draft registration card. I have no actual birth information or death information for them as of yet. I do know they resided in Trenton, NJ because I found them on the 1920 and 1930 census. Is there any German websites I may be able to utilize? Hopefully, I'll start coming up with some info. soon with your suggestions and others who may join in. Thanks again to all!!! So excited to be here! Kati
Katie sent the message below in response to a Footprint on the Heart
posting. I am sending it again so all can see her message and perhaps come
up with some ideas for beginning her search.
Kati, have you looked for your family names on the Ellis Island site? It is
www.ellisislandrecords.org -- if you are lucky you will find your ancestors
and the village they left from will be on the manifest. Did your great
grandparents come to America? Do you have any death certificates (which
often will ask for the parents' names and place of birth). Social security
records are good resources as well (they can be found on www.rootsweb.com).
What you need to do is start with the information you know and then work
back in time.
List members, can you come up with anything else to get her started?
Rose Mary
