Dear DVHH Readers,

It is my pleasure to announce the publication of a new article on the DVHH
website. It is excerpted from the Bulkes Heimatbuch, published by the
Heimatsausschesses Bulkes in 1984. These revealing selections from this
book were contributed and translated by Henry Fischer.

The presentation is presented in four sections:

Bulkes in the Batschka: describes the German colonization of Bulkes,
beginning in 1786, in the last part of the Josephine Colonization.

Bulkes & World War II: Begins with the Nazi invasion of Yugoslavia on Palm
Sunday, April 6, 1941 and describes the atrocities inflicted upon the German
settlers and their lives in the death camps.

Bulkes - The Story of One Young Survivor: The story of Elisabeth Ilg, and
how she and her sister survived the Gakowa camp.

Bulkes Leidensweg: This part reports on the fates of many of the German
citizens of Bulkes, and lists the death toll of the village.

This very important publication is a must-read and also depicts the similar
circumstances of many other Batschka villages. If you aren't aware of this
history, these excerpts will describe for you the chilling basics.

very fortunate to now have this account available in English in the DVHH
repository.
