I was raised Lutheran. In fact my father is a Lutheran pastor. When I was growing up (I'm 51) we went to church every Wednesday evening during Lent and Good Friday service was also in the evening.

If there are more questions on this I can ask my dad. Dad's mom was from Bulkes.

Most of my friends were Roman Catholic and I remember the girls had to wear something to cover their heads in church and it was usually a small lace square or lace scarf.

I thought we wore scarves and hats to church because Paul wrote in one of his letters, probably to the Corinthians, that women cover their heads. I think it's the same letter in which he said that women should neither teach nor preach.

Katharine.

Benediction, usually on Fridays. Kneeling was your penance. Wearing a
scarf on their heads while at prayer, it supposed to be a gesture of
modesty before God. (Times sure have changed since.)
