We were quite surprised when we arrived in Canada to learn that girls and women had to cover their heads in church.
I don't think that was the rule in Croatia. It certainly was not in Austria and Germany.
The nuns at the boarding school I attended didn't even allow us to wear pants(1953) but we did not need to cover our heads.
We lived in the Black Forest until 1955. That was a tourist area. Some teenage girls, locals as well as tourists, even wore shorts to church then. (not me)
