Greetings to all:

My name is Robert Schaffner and I am a new member of DVHH. I have found the postings to be interesting and the newsletter very informative. Thank you to all who put the newsletter together and also to Jane Moore and Eve Brown for helping me with the problems encountered with the mailing list.

I have a question that hopefully some members can answer.

My grandparents were from the Sathmar region, particularly the towns of Scheindorf and Hamroth. I have never been there and not to Europe for that matter. I am interested in visiting southern Germany and then traveling to western/northwestern Romania. Has anyone, or anyone you know, been to these areas lately, particularly Romania? Does anyone plan to travel there in the near future? I would like to learn from the experience of others, such as is it best to travel by car, train, or plane from Germany to Romania? This trip may occur in early summer so the weather should not be a hindrance. Would it be wise to hire a local tour guide/driver in Satu-Mare, Romania, and then drive to Scheindorf and Hamroth? Does anyone have relatives or friends in that area or regions close by who have free time and would be willing to take me to these areas? I certainly would pay them for their time, gas money, etc.. Are the roads there easy to navigate? What rip-offs and /or scams ar!
e prevalent? Is it safe to drink the local water? Of course there are many questions so I would appreciate any advice/suggestions sent my way.

This is my first posting on DVHH, so hopefully I am doing it correctly.
