Subject: [DONEGAL] EGAN/LAIRD

Hello,
I have posted before to this wonderful list about my LAIRD family.
I hae NO clues on James Laird's wife Jane EGAN.
Family stories say they were married in Ireland, traveled through Scotland,
went to London where they had a baby girl who died on the way to the US.
My problem with this story is that there seem to be precious few Egans in
Donegal and I have found James on a ship's passenger list with his brother
Ralston in 1852. Just in case Jane was from Donegal though--is anyone
familiar with any EGAN families?
The little I have on Jane is she was born 1835/36 in Ireland--had 6 daughters
between 1858-1872 in Burlington Co. NJ. She died there in 1880--no death
cert. of course! She was also Catholic, James and his family were
Presbyterians. The daughters were all raised as Catholics.
Is this unusual or did people routinely marry out of their faith in Ireland
in the 1850's?
Thanks for any clues or suggestions.
Kathy Karn
