Although you give no clue as to the source of the reference my guess is
that it is yet another example of someone unfamiliar with the Dorset
dialect attempting to phonetically spell the Dorset pronunciation. If this
is the case I would suggest one of Dorset's 'Piddle' villages. Top of my
list would be Turners Puddle or Tolpuddle, which in the 17th century would
have been Turners Piddle and Tolpiddle respectively.
