Hi Joy and others
A bastardy bond (very basically) was a legal decision as to the father
of the baby requiring him to pay maintenance for that child rather than
the parish---those here in the UK may recognise similarities with the
CSA (Child Support Agency)

Hi Val,
Your message caught your eye as it mentioned Bastardy Bonds. I have
come across the initials BBD in relation to one of my ancestors who was
born out of wedlock and I wondered what it meant. Could BBD translate
to Bastardy Bond? If so, can you tell me what a Bastardy Bond was?
Thanks,
Joy
