Hello Joy

One weekly newspaper which covers the North Dorset area is the Western
Gazette. Their address is Sherborne Road, Yeovil, Somerset BA21 4YA,
telephone number 01935 700500, Web site: http://www.westgaz.co.uk

I don't know how long the Western Gazette has been in existence. The Dorset
County Chronicle, Sherborne Mercury and Southern Times all existed in the
1800's and all contained at least some coverage of North Dorset (the first
two rather more than the last named I would guess).

Film copies of the first two are available at Dorchester County Reference
Library, Colliton Park, Dorchester:
Dorset County Chronicle from 1824 to 1957
Sherborne Mercury from 1737 to 1867

Film copies of the Southern Times is available at Weymouth Reference
Library, Great George Street, Weymouth for the whole of the papers existence
from the 1850's to the 1960's.

Hope this helps.
