I have the 1881 Census and the BVRI on cd. No Gartells in Gillingham I'm
sorry to say.

The census shows one entry from Pulham, Dorset and 21 from the Caundles.

In the VRI baptisms, there were 15 entries for Dorset - 13 from Caundles
area, 3 from Holwell and 2 from Pulham. In the VRI marriages, out of 7
Dorset entries, there were 2 Caundles, 2 Fordington, 3 Pulham and 1
Holwell.
