Subject: Orphanage in Dawlish??
Date: Tue, 1 Feb 2000 21:55:23 +1100
Hi all,
I'm trying to fill in some gaps in my grandmother's early life.
The oral tradition goes that Florence Kathleen Maggie YOUNG was
sent to an orphange at the age of 4-5 years (c.1910), when her
father died. (Despite her mum still being alive)
The orphanage MAY have had some naval connection, and MAY
have been in the village of Dawlish.
She would have been there until c1920.
One other possible fact (or a red herring) is a Lady Hetty Meade-
King as benefactor or patron of the said institution.
Does this ring any bells with anyone - an orphanage in Dawlish?
Anything which may help to narrow down the search would be
useful.
TIA
