Hot off the press - the Master Index of Surnames in the 1891 Dorset census
has just been jointly published by the Somerset and Dorset FHS and the
Dorset FHS.

As with the 1851 index it contains just surnames, volumes and parishes - so
you will need to buy the individual volumes in order to look the surnames
up.There are 19 of these individual volumes! The index is therefore a great
help in deciding which volumes to buy and where to start your search.

The cost of the index in book form from Society bookstalls is £3.50 for the
book and £2.25 for the fiche - I am not sure how much is going to be added
for packing and postage. It is so new that I don't think it is on the
society web site yet, but I am sure Alan will be adding it very soon.

Also new out....Census and Church Records for Corfe Castle and Church
Knowle, 1841, 1861 and 1871 Plus the 1790 census for Corfe Castle,
transcribed by Stephen Lillington and published by Somerset and Dorset FHS.
Again this is so new I do not have a price.

(For the record, the Society also sells the 1841, 61 and 71 transcripts for
Swanage/Langton Matravers/Worth Matravers/Studland and Wareham/Arne, both by
Stephen Lillington and Mike Norman. Stephen is currently working on 41/16/71
transcripts for Wool, Steeple, Kimmeridge and West Lulworth and these will
be published in the autumn. He has no plans to transcribe any parishes after
this - it is a personal project not a society project.)

Finally - the 1851 census is now available on 31/2" floppy discs - see the
society website for details. http://www.sdfhs.org
