Hello Jack and everybody else,
Apologies. Hope I haven't confused the issue too much for everyone..!
However, prior to Lewis TREGONWELL, Squire of Cranborne, building his
holiday home in what is now Bournemouth in the early 19th century I
didn't think the Hamlet of Bournemouth had much in the way of "outlying
areas" and Poole was by far the more important adjacent Town. It was
only after Constitution Hill and Newtown became populated during the
rapid expansion of Bournemouth that any kind of link could possibly have
been made between them. Kinson's population almost doubled from the
1801 figure of 497 souls within 50 years and much of the increase was
connected to the building work going on in Bournemouth. The area between
Christchurch and Poole before 1800 was mostly desolate heathland.
Meanwhile, perhaps someone can tell me where this little local ditty
about Poole comes from?
"If Poole was a fish-pool, and the men of Poole fish. There'd be a pool
for the Devil and fish for his dish."
I guess it comes from a much larger verse and I'd like to have a
transcript of the whole thing if possible.
Best regards,
.\.\-i-k-e...

Michael. Kinson is part of Bournemouth, NOT Poole.
Regards. Jack.
