Having just come back from the New Year at my Mother in Laws, I would like
to ask the list if anyone knows the chant which used to be said when a
quarryman was getting married.

I believe that a ceremony took place in the quarry where the prospective
groom had to jump a rope or pole from a group of single men towards a group
of married men. This is the time that the chant would have been made.

This now appears to be a cerempny which has dropped out of fashion.
