Hi Margaret

Dorchester Records Office hold a certain amount of Dorset County Constabulary Records, but may I suggest you write with your query to -

Public Relations Department
(Dorset Constabulary History)
Doret Police
Winfirth
Dorchester
DORSET
DT2 8DZ

I'm afraid I don't know the name of the current officer that deals with history queries but this department will most certainly pass your letter on.

In the meantime, if you look at this site http://www.lightage.demon.co.uk/ and go to - Police Index Boys in Blue mentioned in the UK press 1860-1920 Biographies * Photos * Cases * Careers * Presentations * Obituaries * Boer War * WWI - and under letter "A" you will find reference to the resignation in 1898 of CC (Chief Constable?) Amyatt. Also on the site is details of how to send for a copy of the newspaper report.

Let me know (off list) if you have any problems with this (newspaper article) as I may be able to assist.

regards
Heather
