Hi Mari
Up to now I have found no connection between my ANTHONY's from Portland and
the ones you mention.
I have found on the 1851 Census Index.....
Minterne Magna, Dorset.
ROBERT ANTHONY aged 48 a Bricklayers Lab born Minterne.
TEMPERANCE ANTHONY aged 42 born Pulham, Dorset.
ANN M ANTHONY aged 9 a Scholar born Minterne.
WILLIAM ANTHONY aged 7 a Schoalr born Minterne.
ELIZA ANTHONY aged 4 a Scholar born Minterne.
ISAAC ANTHONY aged 1 born Minterne.
Also there is on the 1881 and 1891 Census a George
Anthony (and his family) born abt 1845/6 living in Weymouth, and given as
being born in Holnest, Dorset, which is not that far from Minterne Magna. On
the 1901 Census he is living in Love Lane, Weymouth and gives his birthplace
as Sherborne, Dorset. His wife has also changed from being born in Hermitage
on the 1881/1891 Census to Cerne Abbas. However all these places including
Minterne Magna are roughly in the same area so it's no surprise, just makes
life more difficult for us trying to trace them.
I can't find him on the 1851 Census Index for Dorset or his baptism on my
VRI cd. If you want what few details I have, I am willing to send them to
you in case there is a connection somewhere.
Georgie
Weymouth.
