Not sure if we have been in touch before but I do have a FOOT in my tree as
Mary FOOT married William JAMES at Semley 4/12/1782 like you I do not know
where she came from , her death is in the Semley records 2/2/1812 .
The James family were the Butchers/Grocers in Semley for many years . Semley
is certainly in the area you are talking about and your Joseph and my Mary
are the same age so a possible brother /sister link maybe . So many of my
Semley folk married into Dorset and the other way round , it does make it
hard to track and thats why I belong to both Dorset and Wiltshire lists .
For some reason Pinkney rings a bell with me so I shall look at my records
Best wishes Valerie and let me know if you get anything please as it may
help me also .

> We have been trying for several years to trace the birth of Joseph FOOT,
my 3 x great grandfather, together with his parents but without even the
smallest clue! We know that he married Catherine DIBBEN / DYBEN in 1785 at
Gussage St Michael and at that time Joseph was from Berwick St John but
there is no trace of his birth or baptism there. He and his family remained
there until his death in 1805.
> We think it possible therefore that maybe he was born in Dorset probably
close to the Wiltshire border - he had been carter to the PINKNEY family for
many years which may be a clue? Will be interested to hear if there is any
information, however minor, of FOOT families in the surrounding villages
within say a radius of say 8 miles of Gussage St Michael. There is also
some possibility of some sort of connection to Robert and Fortune FOOT who
had estates etc in Gussage St Michael where the marriage took place.
