Greetings to all list members,
This is my first posting. Being relatively new to this whole new addiction (computers, internet, genealogy etc.) I have been seeking information and support from several overseas mail lists without realising that a list existed on my own doorstep. I have had a lot of help and guidance from Staffordshire and Black Country lists but now I'm floundering.
I have traced my HOLLAND line back to Wednesbury, West Midlands, England. My great great grandfather was Joseph Holland, his spouse was Elizabeth ? Elizabeth died on 25/1/1868. What I have is this:
Joseph Holland, died before 1878, his spouse Elizabeth, died 25/1/1868, aged 56.
Known children : William (my great grandfather) christened 19/3/1837, Joseph christened 25/8/1839, Rosannah christened 20/3/1842.
William married Emma HAYWOOD at West Bromwich in1860. Emma's parents were Benjamin, died 17/10/1885 aged 70, and Mary ? died 26/6/1882 aged 69.
William and Emma came as assisted migrants to Sydney in 1878 with three children, Joseph aged 17, Benjamin (my grandfather) aged 15, and Mary E aged 10.
Benjamin married Catherine DELANY in 1900. Catherine's parents were Thomas Delany and Catherine Salmon who were married in St Patrick's, Parramatta on 11/1/1849. So far I have not been able to find out any more about them.
Mary married William Young in 1887.
Joseph was best man at Benjamin's marriage in 1900. No other trace of him but he may have married an Emily Gibbs in 1888.
Sorry for this long posting (I'll keep my wife's family till later) but so many loose ends. Any help or advice will be appreciated.
Regards Bill Holland, Tumbi Umbi.
