Hello Valerie!

There has recently been published a book giving a wonderful
overview of Sydney, its people and their doings.

HALL, Richard, ed. (2000): "Sydney. An Oxford anthology" is 'an
entertaining and informative celbrarion of Australia's oldest and
foremost city. ... a superbly readable and informative selection of
writings that together evoke the people, places, ethnicities, cultures,
and politics that have constituted our sense of this metropolis' from
the discovery of the site by Capt Cook up almost to the present day.
There is quite a lot relating to the period you are interested in.
And there are full references for all the sources of the selected texts.

It is published by Oxford University Press (in Australia), so you may
be able to buy it in England. On the back of the book there is a
"Customer Service" email address:

You may be able to find out more there. Good luck!

Edna
