Hi Fellow Genealogist,
I have just been informed by John that the index for Death and Funeral Notices for the Courier Mail, can no longer go ahead.
As the indexer for this paper, I am extremely pissed off with them as it is an index and not a full transcription, probably because they thought we were going to make money out of it. I hope everyone realises that this is done out of love for pursing family history and helping other people around the world trace their family history and no money ever changes hands between anyone connected with the Sydney DPS.
After entering over 11,000 entries over the last 9 months (and still with a couple years backlog to go), I have dedicated many hours to make everyones lives a little easier and now for nothing. You would think that the paper would be grateful for us to be directing others to their paper for information but I guess not.
Please express your disgust to the Courier Mail. Please voice you opinion to
As many other papers in NSW have praised us for what we have done it is hard to know what they are thinking.
I have been in contact with another DPS in Queensland and they have not had any trouble getting approval, the Cairns paper said "there was no need for approval as it is not the full ad and is only parts of the details so there is no copyright issue". I am currently investigating the copyright issue this with my legal advisor, and will let you know in the very near future.
So who is going hammer in the last nail ??? .... Not the Courier Mail....
Regards to All
Sharyn Salmon
