Hi Robert,

I think you'll find that war deaths are treated as deaths within Australia
for registration purposes. Certainly mine are registered & listed in the
indices in NSW and QLD, as appropriate.

I think the distinction is that, as you say, they are *recorded* at the War
Memorial and the *graves* are listed by CWGC, but neither of these are
registering bodies and the deaths still must be *registered* with the
appropriate authority, the registrar general of BDMs, I assume (but don't
*know*) of the state in which they enlisted.
