Hi Edna,

The solution to your problem is: before you copy your HTML files onto
your CD-ROM to distrbute to your friends and relatives, so while you've
still got the files on your hard disk, you create some files that will
make your CD auto-run, that is auto-play. So all your relatives will
have to do is merely slip the CD into the computer and it will shortly
start by itself with the main menu or whatever you intend them to start
with.

The tricky part of course is creating a set of files to get the CD to be
auto-run. I've got such a program, but it's not always straightforward
to use. If no-one else can recommend a simple method, ask me again and
I can explain it to you.

Cheers,

Phil Young.

Subject: Sending html genealogy

Dear Listers,

I want to use the PAF 5 web creation facility to send family
members CDs containing html versions of their ancestry files which
they could then view on their browsers.

As it was my first attempt to use the facility, I tried first with my
own ancestry. I followed the directions without problems and was
asked whether I would like to view the result before "posting it to
the Web". 'Yes please', I said, and was then presented with just
the sort of results I'd hoped for. I then exited the PAF program.

Now to try getting it onto a CD. In My Computer/My Documents
(I'm using XP) I identified the folder, My Documents\web, in which I
found the single folder "ednawatson".... a name I had earlier
chosen at PAF's request.

Opening this folder I found that the web page version of my
ancestry file consisted of one folder of "images" + some 26 "PAF"
html files + one Word Ged file.

If I copied a similar set of files onto a CD, how would I tell the
recipient to access them? So I tried accessing my own files from
their present location on the hard disk........first directly, and then,

in the hope of integrating them, through PAF5. However, even
through PAF, now that I had once used the "inspecting" facility
provided as part of the web-creation program, I could find no way of
revisiting the whole created web page.

Over to the experts. Please can anyone help? Do I need to send
everyone a copy of PAF 5 and, if so, how do I tell them to access
the folders and files on the CD?

Best Christmas wishes..........Edna W
