I have a ancestor William MOON who died on 29 March 1891 age 38 years as a
result of a duck shooting trip in a boat with his 13 year old son George.
William decided at the end of the day to get one more duck, picked up his
gun by the muzzle pulling it towards him and the trigger caught on the seat
and he killed himself. George was suspect number one but later cleared.
Poor boy.
Apparently someone who saw the inscription on his headstone at Rookwood
Cemetery was so intrigued, they had to find out how he died. (I don't know
who this person was)
His inscription reads:
William Moon
Who was so suddenly cut down in the vigour
of life, while engaged in that pleasure
to which he was so devotedly attached.
Leaving a wife and 7 children to mourn their loss.
29th March 1871 aged 38years.
My problem lies with finding out who the rest of William's children were.
William's wife was Harriet and at the time they were having children there
were two William and Harriet MOON's having children and only one William and
Harriet are mine and I can't tell from the birth indexes which is which!
I was hoping if someone was going to the State Library, or any library that
has newspapers for that time, might be able to do a lookup for me for a
inquest or newspaper article about the accident.
Thank you
