Instead of census records, as compulsory voting have you considered
Electoral rolls. If you have an idea of where they lived some records show
married names or where they transferred to and also after 1973 it was
changed to 18 instead of 21 so you had a better chance of catching females
before they married. It shows when they went on the rolls as well which
sometimes helps to pick up an age if the parents were on it before then. It
can be a hard slog going from one year to the next as Murphy's Law if you
try to skip a couple of years you can bet it will change somewhere then and
you have to do back. It also marks deaths if you get the archive films to
1881. Postal directories can also help pinpoint the name sometimes so all
is not lost.
