Hi,
I'm a new subsriber to this interesting list; first
things first-
Merry Christmas all round!
Secondly, I am based in the UK and have only recently
taken an active interest in following up some
wandering British relations who headed out your way
(i.e. several thousand miles away) - a mercenary
pretext, I know; still, I have been greatly impressed
by the scope and the structure of the Ryerson Index,
and particularly the continued efforts in running the
project - being a member of a few Yorkshire-based
Family History societies, I appreciate the practical
and financial difficulties in running and finding
online hosting for such a project.
Personally, I am interested in the use of databases
and online search mechanisms, and wondered wheteher
there would be scope for geographic information (much
like links to www.multimap.com in the UK, for
example). This would be particularly good for those of
us (well, probably just me) who aren't so familiar
with the newspapers' target territories and their
general demographics (size of towns, etc).
Working in a Universty Library myself, I'm also keenly
aware of copyright issues, and was wondering wheteher
there were any particular relationships established
with newspapers in support of a not-for-profit
genealogical project such as this.
In consideration of the above, I'd also like to ask if
it is possible to make paypal contributions to the
project since these are often easier for remote
researchers such as myself who don't have the pleasure
(or want the rope!) of a credit card to try and
support the people doing the work.
In this respect, I would like to offer my own servces,
as far as that my be useful - and would appreciate any
guidance as to how I can find out more about the
following Ryerson index entries:
Name: JONKERS, Bertha
Late of Hornsby, formerly of Turramurra,
Date: 05 APR 1986
Newspaper: Sydney Morning Herald
Notes: pub. 07 APR 1986
and her husband -
Name: JONKERS, Charles Alfred
Late of Hornsby, formerly of Turramurra,
Date: 14 NOV 1985
Newspaper: Sydney Morning Herald
Notes: pub. 16 NOV 1985
Many thanks,
Chris Jones
