Subject: Re: [DUKE] Obituary Notification

I found out that this was a perfectly legitimate link that Bill sent.
However, Since we should all be careful with links, etc., it would be best
f anyone posting a link give enough information so that we are positive it
as sent by them and not by some worm or virus that is infecting their
omputer. I very much appreciate Bill posting the link, but I was leery
fter problems some of my contacts had earlier this week.
I've received three emails this week, and my husband received two, that were
omewhat similar to Bill's and which connected to different virus/worm
ites. They all came from known contacts-in my case a friend, a relative,
nd a professional colleague-and listed a link (three different ones) to
lick on. I deleted all of them without opening the link and later confirmed
hat all three led to different virus links. (Actually, in these cases they
ere worm links-the sites were selling various products but also then
ropagated another worm link to everyone in the opener's address book.) My
usband was not so fortunate; the email he received came from his sister,
ho had also opened a link and he opened it "automatically. But at least we
aught his mistake before the email worms went out-then we had to scrub his
omputer.
I've since talked to others receiving the same types of emails, including my
hree contacts each of whose new pet worm sent me an email.
The difference from Bill's link, of course, was that his came from the Dukes
ailing list and had some information included. I thought it was probably
egitimate, but couldn't be sure, and couldn't figure out how to reveal the
ctual target of the imbedded link.
