John Gibson, Dalgain, Covenanter, prisoner in Glasgow TB, banished to
plantations at Glasgow Jun 1684, tr. fr. the Clyde (river) on the Pelican by
Walter Gibson, merchant in Glasgow, to America Jun 1684. PC.9.208.

Hanna's Scotch Irish lists John Gibson, Covenanter, banished 17
Jun 1684 to Carolina, tr. in James Gibson's ship; subscribed a joint
testimony with others. Dr. George F. Black in Scotland's Mark On
America says he had descendants.

John Gibsone, merchantt, [Dumfries], prisoner brought fr. `Drumfries to
Edinbrugh,' p. 377, 1684, v.__ PC Reg. I believe this was in Oct 1684.
Other prisoners on the page are Covenanters, John McHaffie in Gargerie,
Bessie Kennidie, John Kincaid, etc.

Covenanters, ca 1684, per Ringan Gilhaize.

James Bennoch, Covenanter, was captured with four others hiding in cave
at Ingleston in parish of Glencairn and slain, 1685. One of three
grave-stones there has four lines of inscription, per Hanna's Scotch-Irish.
The other names on inscription were Robert Edgar, John Gibson, Robert
Mitchell [graves at Glencairn] and Robert Grierson, bur. at Balmaclellan.
SCMA Index: James Bennoch. Shot at Ingleston, 1685. Buried at
Glencairn Kirkyard. Stone. Also memorials at Ingleston and at Dalgarnoc
(Nithsdale Martyrs).

Gilbert Edgar in Corsbie was called in for questioning by the Privy Council
at Wigtoun 14 Oct 1684.

John Edgar, Covenanter, banished 1679. Of parish of Balmaclellen,
Galloway [n. of Kirkcudbright, on River Nith]. One of 50 Covenanters who
survived the shipwreck at Mulehead, per Hanna.

John Edgar, Covenanter, one of five men found in a cave at Ingleston in the
parish of Glencairn who were shot and k. there. 1685. SCMA Index shows
Ingliston Mains. Stone at Glencairn, where he is buried. Memorials at
Ingliston, and at Dalgarnoc ("Nithsdale Martyrs" Cross).

Gravestone bears inscription and is near graves of other Covenanters.

in Port Royal, Jamaica, Nov 1685.

Francis, which arrived in East Jersey in Dec 1685. Source, Boyer. [See

John Grierson, Covenanter, lived in parish of Irongray, suffered 2
Jan 1667 [he and William Welsh were hanged at Dumfries, per Mrs. Moira
Aitken, Editor, D&GFHS Newsletter], tombstone, church-yard of Dumfries
with inscription about Grierson and Robert Stewart, son of Major Robert
Stewart of Ardoch.

St. John's Town of Dalry. Stone there - "table" stone in N. part of
kirkyard.

Robert Grierson, Covenanter, shot with 4 others near a cave at
Ingleston, in the parish of Glencairn in 1685; stone is in the church-yard of

William Grierson. Captured at Rullion Green. Tried at Ayr on
24.12.1666, along with ten others. Executed Dumfries 2.1.1667. Stone and
memorial in St. Michael's Kirkyard, Dumfries. (Gravestone and obelisk).

William Griersone, sometyme of Lochqhir, "prisoner brought from
Drumfries to Edinbrugh," vol. ____ p. 377 1684 PC Reg. Others named on
that page, a "prisoner brought from Drumfries to Edinburgh" included John

William Grierson of Lochurr, near Craigenputtoch. "..of good social
standing". Condemned by the Justiciary Court in Dumfries to the
canebrakes in Carolina. Freed at Enterkin Pass by Covenanter ambush, 29

James Mitchell, Covenanter, executed. Purves in Fair Sunshine tells the
story. James Mitchell was a ministerial student, received Master of Arts.
He spent a time in Holland in safety, but before long returned to Scotland.
He attempted to kill Archbishop Sharp, but the shot missed and hit a bishop
in the wrist. Mitchell was condemned 18 Jan 1676, later tortured until
crippled. In Jan 1677 he was taken to be confined on Bass Rock in the
Firth of Forth, and was there helped by James Fraser of Brea, a
Covenanter, who shared food with him. Mitchell was m. to Elizabeth
Somerville and I believe left descendants. Mitchell's brother-in-law was
Nichol Somerville, who stood firmly with him and tried to help. Mitchell
was executed 10 Jan 1678. SCMA Index: James Mitchell. Executed
18.1.1678. A "stickit" minister, originally from Lothians, graduate
Edinburgh. Shot at Archbishop Sharp but missed. Apprehended 1674,
imprisoned on Bass Rock. Tried in 1678 and executed in the Grassmarket
shortly after. Memorial plaque there.

John Mitchaell, Covenanter, w/Argyle, prisoner in Edinburgh tolbooth,
banished, 31 Jul 1685. PC11.330. Source, Boyer, probably.
John Mitchell was banished to plantations, on John Ewing's
ship..in..Leith.. bounding for Jamaica, 1685. PC11.136.

Robert Mitchel, Covenanter, captured near cave at Ingleston in parish of
Glencairn, shot dead. Hanna, quoting A Cloud of Witnesses, publ. 1714,
says Robert Mitchel's inscribed tombstone shared with Robert Edgar and
has a few lines. Scott's SCMA Index: Robert Mitchell of Cumnock. Shot
with four others in a cave at Ingliston Mains, Glencairn. Memorial there.

William Mitchell, Covenanter, had Meadowhead Farm not far from
Ayrsmoss, and Richard Cameron stayed with the family the night before his
death, per Fair Sunshine, p. 46.
