To all -
Some time ago Sandy Pittendreigh, our good Dumfries docent, sent me photos
of Caerlaverock, which may not be at his website. As I save all p0hotos he
sends me,
I would be happy to send these pics on to anyone who can receive jpegs of
some
magnitude (KBs). In the fall of 1996 my husband and I spent the better part
of the
day at Caerlaverock and I used a ton of film. Unfortunately I don't have a
scanner,
but Sandy's photos are excellent. I had long wanted to see this castle as I
am an
afficianado of old castles wherever they are to be found, but this one is
special.
The shape is triangular, except that the apex is truncated by a monumental
gatehouse, making the ground paln a trapezoid. In the 16th c. there were some
rather elegant buildings erected within the walls, and much of this is
still standing
today. There are some painted signs on the grounds depicting the castle at
several stages of development - quite stylish and beautiful, and I think
Sandy sent me one photo of one of the signs. Let me know what you desire and
I will gladly send it on. Hope Sandy doesn't mind -
Cheers,
