I too have been searching for records in the 1800-1820 time period as
well.
Five children born in Scotland, most likely Penpont/Tynron area, first
born 15 Jul 1800, and not a trace of any of the births. Children came to
Nova Scotia with parents in 1818. We know that they were Presbyterian in
Nova Scotia, as death records are given in the "Presbyterian Witness",
and burials in Presbyterian Cemeteries.
Not found on Scots Origins, nor on searching IGI by batch numbers. It
was suggested by one kind lister that they may have gone to Liverpool to
work for a few years before setting off to Canada, so searched the
Presbyerian church indexes in Liverpool using batch numbers on IGI in
case they went there before going to N.S. - nothing. We have a birth
date of 1780 for the father, John Hanning/Haining, and the mother
Jean/Jane Johnston of 1778, a native of Penpont Parish, according to her
obituary. Goal would be to establish where the children were born, in
hopes that would lead to information about previous generations of their
family.
Sounds like there's at least 3 of us having a similar dilemma with
missing records in a similar time frame!
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to do next?
