Hi Hope & All,
Yes that's right, though it was more;
"N' er cast a cloot
Till Mai be oot!"

Which means basically don't remove any winter
clothing till the end of May.

I still say it today to my grandchildren in New Zealand!

Though it was given as a real warning
when I was a child, especially as a teenager
(when the less clothes one wore the
more fashionable....)
not to remove winter clothing till June, atleast!
Even though we did have some warm days in May..
living in Edinburgh, a cold east wind could blow
cruelly cold, freezing you to the bone!
I'm sure it's just the same today???
Cheers,
Maureen

time of year. My father reminded me of it just yesterday. It had to do
with "leaving your long underwear on until the month of May arrived".
