I am not sure I understand how some members have used the IGI, particularly
'by batch numbers', but it seems to me that the limitations of the IGI are
not being recognised.
The IGI is not very comprehensive in its coverage. In some counties in
England the coverage is much less than 50% . Over the years the coverage has
if anything been reduced by the removal of earlier entries.

It is also necessary to be very careful with entries which have been entered
by church members, eg. 'patron submitted'. Some of these are very
unreliable, almost 'guesstimates''. No proof was required.
