Good morning folks -
Here is an interesting story connected to Dumfriesshire which I came
across quite by accident while looking for the surname SWAN in Nova
Scotia
Anna Swan: Nova Scotia's Remarkable Giantess
http://collections.ic.gc.ca/aswan/storyindex.htm
Since I am doing a study of the HAINING surname, I was most interested
to find that Anna Swan's middle name was Haining.
Anna's grandparents were from Annan, DFS. Also found - a Swan family
connection to the Dalswinton estates, the invention of steam engines and
the reference to Robert BURNS that Linda Sherlock so kindly sent the
story about to D&G list recently.
There are other names scattered throughout the site, for example: John
BELL (first known Scottish settler to NEW ANNAN who came in 1806),
William SCOTT, James MUNRO, to name some. Anna's mothers maiden name was
GRAHAM (a name I have no connection to, other than a marriage 25 years
gone).
