DO NOT REPLY TO THE LIST.

As much as I dislike doing so, I am forced to talk once again about viruses. I am getting a steady stream of emails from list
members who have been infected by the BADTRANS virus through messages from other listmembers whose hard drives are infected.

Let me emphasize that these are NOT messages distributed through Rootsweb servers. Rootsweb will not transmit any email containing
an attachment.

Each of us is responsible for protecting his/her own machine and, hence, the machines of the people with whom they communicate.
There are many steps that can and SHOULD be taken by each of us to insure this.

1. DO NOT open any attachment if it is at all suspicious, no matter how interesting or attractive it may be. I mean, think about
it. If a stranger handed you a ticking box and said "wait till I get around the corner and then open this", would you do it?

2. There are several good virus protection programs on the market that are inexpensive. Among these, the top three are.

PCCillin 2000. Learn about this at http://www.antivirus.com/

Norton AntiVirus. Learn about this at http://www.symantec.com/

McAffee VirusScan. Learn about this at http://www.mcafee.com/

I use PCCillin 2000, because I run other programs that seem to cause conflicts with either Norton or McAffee.

Any of the above websites offers extensive information about viruses and I believe all of them offer a free online virus scan you
can use to immediately check your system for viruses.

In this day and age, it is simply foolish not to protect yourself with one of these programs. But, remember, once you have
installed it you must set the parameters and options to meet your requirements and keep the program updated. PCCillin, once you
have installed it, will keep your computer updated automatically as new viruses are identified and fixes are written. The others
may do the same.
