Hi Judy and other Listers,
When I was growing up in Edinburgh
in the 1950s' my father often received
mail addressed to:
"John POOL Esq."
I remember asking him once why
sometimes he was 'Mr'. & others 'Esquire.'
His answer was that 'Esquire' was more
often used in an official category.
(He was a Public Servant working
in The Department of Health for Scotland
at St. Andrews House, Edinburgh.)
I doubt that the title is used these days???
Regards,
Maureen Dunn ( nee POOL)
