Hi Janet Welford,
I have CARLYLE ancestors in Middlebie Parish which is adjacent to Hoddam.
My ggg grandparents were WILLIAM CARLYLE (1753 - 1857?) and MARY CARRUTHERS
(1777 - 1862).
Their children were HELEN, WILLIAM, MARGARET, JAMES, JANE, ROBERT, JOHN and
GEORGE.
HELEN (my gg grandmother), had two children, ANTHONY CARLYLE and AGNES
CARLYLE (my g grandmother).
ANTHONY married JANE IRVING 25 Mar 1859 in Middlebie.
Their children were JOHN b Middlebie 9 Jul 1859, HELEN b. Applegarth 24 Mar
1861, JOHN IRVING CARLYLE b. Kirkpatrick Juxta 27 May 1862. JANE b.
Kirkpatrick Juxta 17 Oct 1863, WILLIAM b. Kirkpatrick Juxta 21 July 1865,
ROBERT b. Kirkpatrick Juxta, Dumfries, 26 Jul 1867 and JANET b. Kirknewton
and East Calder 23 Sep 1871.
