Subject: [D-G LIST] Nithsdale Martyers
Date: Sat, 4 Aug 2001 12:49:06 EDT
Hi Paul,
Last year you listed all the 51 martyers from a book by Betreff. At the
time I didn't recognize John MCA as John McCall. Do you still have the book
and is there anymore about him? In a recent listing there were several John
McCalls being sought by Roger Grierson of Lag for helping Covenanters. He may
have caught one of these?
I'm busy chasing McCalls in the Glengarry area back in 900 AD. Are you
still holding in the 1100's? We may have an "Hamish" McCall @ Collieston in
1300's. I'm going to have to read more of those seven old books I got on CD
from Dumfries and Galloway (Heritage Books). I'm getting similar information
back on Hamish as I received on William Wallace. He didn't exist?
In Dunscore and Kirkconnel , Robert Britton of Sanquhar is helping me to
find the missing McCalls. Most recent is: Here lys the bodie of Hellien
McKall who was spouse to James Crichton in Clocroy who died January 28th
1733 ( Kirkconnel -original churchyard) So far one of probably thousands who
died in Kirkconnel since 1400s.
Hope you are well,
Ron McCall
