Hello Ann

Thank you so much for your kind offer. Actually I missed out a 'great' - this man is my gg grandfather.

George INGRAM was a native of Daviot, Aberdeenshire. In 1844 when he was 21, he joined the Dumfrieshire Constabulary, and rose to the position of assistant to Mr Jones the chief constable. From there he was transferred to the superintendentship of the Dumfries Burgh Force, until in 1858 he received an appointment in Paisley.

He married Mary IRVING in 1847, and some of their children were born in various towns around Dumfrieshire, indicating he was stationed there. Around 1848 - 1850 they lived at Closeburn, 1851 at Gretna Green, 1853 at Dumfries, 1854 at Langholm - these dates are from the ages of his children, according to the census records of 1861 and 1871.

He died from typhoid fever, October 1871, aged 48, at Paisley. I have a copy of his obituary from the Paisley & Renfrewshire Gazette (October 28th 1871, page 5). I am wondering if there was also a mention of his death in the Dumfries newspaper?. Anything about his life would be of much interest.

Thank you again

Regards
Janet (NZ)
