Hi Ray! I have an Alexander CARLYLE of "Limekilns", Cummertrees Dumfriesshire who was a
Planter in Virginia, but his father was Adam of "Limekilns", not Alexander. His parents were
Adam CARLYLE 1638- and Grizzel MENZIES. His spouse was Margaret de Gladstone and two of
their children were Adam CARLYLE, last of "Limekilns" 1726-1776 (spouse Philadelphia
CARRUTHERS); and John CARLYLE, of whom I know nothing. The other Alexander CARLYLE I have
was a Minister in Dalton and not likely the one you are looking for.
I'll keep looking for John CARLYLE, merchant in Glasgow.
