Hi
I am still stuck with my HALLIDAY family--very little to go on, and common
names at that!
Richard HALLIDAY and Jane KETLEY (dau of John) were married? lived common
law??
had two (or more??) children:
Agnes, born 1843
Archibald, Born 1446
Jane KETLEY then has a son with Morris WELSH in 1851, named George
Jane KETLEY has a daughter, (Margaret I think), which bore the KETLEY
surname
Archibald left Scotland sometime before 1871 census date, as he is listed as
living at the Chelsea Barracks with soldier as his occupation. He married
later that year, and as far as I can tell did not return to Scotland.
However, I have not found his death in England, and his wife and children
were living in a workhouse in 1879. Perhaps he did return to Scotland???
Anyone find a death for an Archibald HALLIDAY after 1879? Archibald was my
great grandfather.
In the 1881 census, we find the family as such:
George WELSH, head
Jane KEIGHTLEY, mother to head
Agnes HALLIDAY, sister to head
and another girl (forget the name, can't find my note!) who is listed as
niece to head-with HALLIDAY as her surname--illegitimate child of Agnes
perhaps? Age of the two is appropriate for mother/daughter
Then, nothing of any of them. I have no birth or death or marriage for
Richard HALLIDAY, No death for Jane KETLEY (HALLIDAY?? WELSH??). Same for
Agnes--so many of them, hard to tell who is who.
Any information or suggestions (other than Scots Origins; I don't have a
credit card) where to look for information appreciated!
Take care,
Cindy Gilbert
