Mike
With reference to your interest in McNaught.

A whole chapter, in the Book of Kirkpatrick-Durham by WA Stark published in 1903, is given over to Kilquhanity and the McNaughts. With reference to the Bridge of Urr - I quote;

"One of the McNaughts, whose name was John, came to prominence in 1542. He was accused of the cruel slaughter of William Sinclair of Auchenfranco, and had to give security that he would appear at court to stand trial for the offence. The murder is stated to have been committed at Netherplace, in the Parish of Urr. There is a local tradition that as punishment for this murder John McNaught was compelled to build the Old Bridge of Urr."

In addition to the McNaughts of Kilquhanity, the book has some references to the McNaughts of Barncalzie, Culfad, Kirkland and Minnydow. Also, noting your surname, a number of references to the McCartneys.

Happy to pass any of this info to you - I am not related to any of them - but am related to the author.
